Volunteer Opportunities for Members - Brief Description List
Our group is mostly volunteer run. Members help out with many aspects of the meeting. We have started a list of volunteer opportunities for our special events (annual DrupalCamp, Cafe, ...) and our regularly monthly meeting with near formal speakers. Please volunteer to mold our meetings into wonderful events.
We need all sorts of talent, not just what is listed below. If you know of more volunteer things that need doing at any of our meetings or special events, then please contact pete-ladrupal [dot] org [at] peterbenjamin [dot] com.
For more detailed descriptions click on any task name.
Greet attendees as they come in the door, ask them to sign in, point out name tags, hand out raffle tickets, answer questions.
Have a volunteer in each presentation room who knows how to operate the A/V, Camtasia, etc.
Chairs around the facility must be set up for audience seating for projection screen viewing.
Set up A/V in MDEA (microphone, mixer, audio-out hookup for laptop)
Return audience chairs, tables, podium, etc, to their storage location at the end of the meeting. Safety first.
At end of each day, walk each row of each room to pick up lost items, trash.
Periodically empty trash from colloquia room into dumpster at the back of Engineering Gateway buildin
Sunday, re-arrange tables in colloquia (registration) room, wipe down tables, vacuum, empty "all" trash.
Evaluates existing speakers and solicits them to contact the Master Of Ceremony to arrange presentation details.
Well before the meeting begins, so early attendees can find parking, front doors, floor lobby, presentation room, restrooms, food area, signs with the meeting name and pointing arrow must be taped on telephone poles, doorways, and hallways.
Author sign content and print out enough copies to post at every meeting. Give files and/or hardcopies to MC, and other volunteers.
Fill balloons with helium or air from large tank. Must be able to tie balloon shut, and tie on string.
Tie balloons along the long walks to/from the Registration Room to the parking lot and lunch location.
The sandwich-boards are loaded onto a cart, placed outside the lecture halls, and signs attached for the day's sessions.
Double-check each lecture hall that A/C is on, A/V is on, etc.
Loan of a projection screen for computer presentations.
Make a loan of your projector or acquire one or ... sky's the limit.
The wifi is down? Fix it for us. Laptop not syncing with projector? Fix it. And other common road blocks. Just raise your hand, and say "Can I help at my technical level?"
Often the group founder runs meetings, and needs a replacement when on vacation, or other reason, like burn out after two years of MC'ing.
Setting up the room for a meeting is something if off loaded from the Master Of Ceremony, allows the MC to focus on their upcoming public speaking gig, reducing pressure on the MC, and creating more value for the attendees. Responds to MC requests for assistance, sets up camera and microphone, arranges for arriving attendees to help set up chairs, registration table, signs, and more.
Set up tables on plaza area (if needed/according to plan).
